History

LtCol. Milovan Antić, MD is the founder of the Department of Radioisotope Application in Medicine established in 1959 as a part of the MMA’s Clinic for Internal Diseases.  In 1969, that Department named Radioisotopes Department began to operate as an independent unit. It was soon extended by adding the Radioimmunology Laboratory led by LtCol. doctor Miodrag Odavić to its roster. With the procurement of the first gamma camera in 1977, it considerably broadened the scope of its work and continued to develop through the years. In 1979, it grew into the Nuclear Medicine Department.

In the late 1980, upon moving into a new building, it got new equipment and significantly improved its working conditions. In 1983, the Department was renamed the Nuclear Medicine Institute, which is its current name.

Over the period between of 1959 through 1984, the Institute was managed by Col. Prof. Dr. Milovan Antić. His successors were Col. Prof. Dr. Miodrag Odavić (1984 to 1994), Col. Prof. Dr. Stevan Marković (1994 through 2004), and  Prof. Dr. Boris Ajdinović (since 2004).
