The Clinic for Abdominal and Endocrine Surgery carries out all kinds of advanced surgeries of the esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, breast and thyroid gland. It routinely performs surgeries of the liver, bile duct and pancreas, treats portal hypertension, and performs living donor and living cadaver liver transplantations.

For almost 12 years, it has applied laparoscopic techniques in the treatment of gallbladder, bile duct, groin hernia and gynecologic diseases The Clinic also applies all the methods of the total parenteral and enteral feeding.

Surgeons from this Clinic have gained an enormous surgical experience in treating combined war and peacetime abdominal traumas as well as complex postoperative complications in the field of abdominal and endocrine surgery. Provision of those services is greatly ensured by Clinic’s capability to rapidly call up multidisciplinary surgical teams.

The Clinic for Abdominal and Endocrine Surgery developed from the Clinic for General and Vascular Surgery. The first head of that Clinic was our academician, Professor General Izidor Papo, M.D.

The Clinic performs more than 3 000 advanced surgical procedures each year.

Today, the Clinic for Abdominal and Endocrine Surgery has three departments:
-    Department of Abdominal Surgery;
-    Department of Colorectal Surgery, and
-    Department of Endocrine Surgery and Gynecology.
