Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics of the MMA’s Clinic for Surgical Diseases grew into the Clinic for Traumatology and Orthopedics in the 80s of the last century.
Its main activity is surgical and non-surgical treatment of the diseases and injuries of the musculosceletal system.
It also deals with the treatment of injuries of the musculosceletal system and their complications, primary and revision arthroplasty and arthroscopy of large joints, surgical treatment of deformities, degenerative and rheumatoide diseases, tumors and other pathological conditions of the musculosceletal system.
The Clinic has three departments, Orthopedic Ward acting withing the framework of the Diagnostic Outpatient Clinic and two operating rooms within the Operating Block and one operating room within the Center for the Same Day Surgery.
Emergency Service of the Clinic operates 24 hours a day throughout a year within the Emergency Center.
Outpatient treatment for military and civilian insured patients is provided every weekday (from Monday through Friday) withing the Ward's hours of operation from 07.30 a.m. and 07.30 p.m. Scheduled appointment is required.
The Clinic is staffed by 13 specialists in orthopedic surgery and 9 residents. It also serves as the teaching base for residents undergoing postgraduate medical training programs in the field of orthopedic surgery and traumatology. The Clinic offers medical education programs for physicians in close coordination with the MMA’s Medical Research Depepartment and Schools of Medicine and national and international medical centers as well.
About 2500 surgical procedures and more than 15000 examinations are performed at the Clinic and its Functional Diagnostic Unit each year. The Clinic’s medical staff is highly qualified and skilled for performing the most complex surgical procedures on the musculosceletal system, providing as well appropriate pre-and postoperative care for patients.
The most common surgical procedures include:
- Arthroplastic surgery (total joint replacement) of the hip, knee and shoulder;
- Revision of arthroplasty of large joints;
- Arthroscopy of the knee, hip, shoulder and anckle joint;
- Surgical treatment of fresh and old injuries of the locomotor system;
- Surgical treatment of early and late complications of injuries of the musculosceletal system;
- Surgical treatment of deformities, degenerative and rheumatoide disesases of the musculosceletal system and,
- Surgical treatment of soft tissue and bone tumors.
