Clinic for Otorhinolaryngology of the Military Medical Academy managed by Col. Dušan Bijelić, M.D., continues the best tradition of its teachers in diagnosing and treating complete ENT pathology according to world standards.
Otology Department run by LtCol. Milanko Milojević, M.D., deals with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the ear.
Relying to a great extent on the support of the ENT functional diagnostic unit acting within the framework of the Diagnostic Outpatient Clinic, this Department applies advanced audiologic methods for precise establishment of diagnosis of the ear diseases which are treated by all the conservative and surgical procedures.
In cases of acute hearing loss, intensive intravenous therapy is applied what, in the largest number of cases, results in the complete restoration of hearing.
In treatment of chronoc inflamation of the middle ear, apart from conservative treatment methods, various microsurgical procedures (tympanoplasty ) are used to completely treat pathological condition and restore hearing to the maximum extent possible.
In cases of otosclerosis, replacement of stapes with special prosthesis - stapedoplasty is applied. Corrective surgeries of various complex congenital anomalies of the external and middle ear are also very successfuly carried out. In the area of esthetic surgery, otapostasis – a surgery of lop ears is one of surgical procedures this Department performs most often and very successfully.
Rhinology Department (headed by LtCol. Aleksandar Ljubičić, M.D.) is specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders involving the nose and paranasal cavities. This Department is also supported to a great extent by the ENT functional diagnostic unit acting within the framework of the Diagnostic Outpatient Clinic where evaluation of the nose function by rhinomanometry and endoscopic diagnosis of the nose pathology is established. Nasal obstructions are also treated by correction of defects in the nasal septum – septoplasty. Esthetic corrective surgery of deformities of the nasal pyramid is also very successfully carried out.
ENT Clinic has a great experience in application of functional endoscopic surgery for treatment of various pathological conditions involving the nose and sinuses among which nasal polyposis is the most often case.
In the recent past, the ENT Clinic has been very active in organizing well attended courses on functional endoscopic surgery of sinuses with participation of renowened world lecturers.
Physicians of the Laryngology Department operated by Maj. Ljubomir Pavićević, M.D., deal with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the larynx. Within the ENT functional diagnostic unit, the Department has one endoscopic operating room intended for endoscopic diagnosis and treatment of pathological conditions relating to the larynx. It is headed by Maj. Assist. Prof. Nenad Baletić, M.D., Ph.D. That room also serves for performance of various kinds of microsurgeries of the larynx by CO2 laser. This is the method by which polyps of the vocal cords, granulomas, benign and malignant tumors localized in certain regions of the larynx are removed and the function of the larynx is maintained to the maximum. All those surgeries are mainly performed on the ambulatory basis thus enabling the patient to leave the hospital on the same day.
In addition to microsurgeries of the larynx, this Department carries out all advanced surgical procedures for treatment of the larynx, pharynx and neck diseases.
Benign diseases that are mainly surgically treated include medial and lateral cysts of the neck, stenosis of the trachea and benign tumors of the neck and throat.
Malignant diseases treated include tumors involving the larynx and pharynx.
Other advanced surgical procedures dealt with by this Department include reconstruction of the pharynx and larynx with a complete resection of a tumor as well as radical and modified dissections of the neck if a malignant disease spreads to the lymph nodes.
The Clinic provides as well surgical treatment of the ENT pathology in children, tonsils, chronic otitis media with effusion by insertion of grommets.
