Dental Clinic
The MMA’s Dental Clinic is the leading dental, teaching and educational institution in the Armed Forces of Serbia. It deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the diseases of the mouth and full mouth rehabilitation. The Clinic follows the world trends with the focus on preventive measures, wide use of fluoride, preventive filling of pits and fissures of both primary (milk) and permanent teeth, prevention of orthodontic anomalies, detection of soft toothdeposits and plaques on the teeth and oral hygiene maintenance. The Military Medical Services in the Serbian Army were established in 1904, and successor of its tradition is the Dental Clinic of the Military Medical Academy founded in 1950
The Dental Clinic is today functionally organized in 4 departments: Department of Mouth and Teeth Diseases and Paradontology with 3 sections, Department of Dental Clinical Prosthetics, Department of Dental Technique and Department of Children’s and Preventive Dentistry.
The Clinic offers a wide array of services in all the fields of dental practice. They are provided at its departments as follows:
• Department of Mouth and Teeth Diseases and Paradontology offers all kinds of services ranging from conservative-esthetic and endodontic treatments including bleaching of devitalized teeth to advanced surgical paradontological procedures and providing services to handicapped patients under general anesthesia;
• Department of Dental Clinical Prosthetics constructs all kinds of fixed dentures: faceted and metal ceramic crowns and bridges, and in near future, fixed prostheses using nonmetal ceramics. In the field of removable partial dentures, skeletal prosthesis retained with attachments or conus crown telescopic systems. Its special quality it is recognizable for in professional circles is the treatment of various forms of acquired and congential anomalies of the teeth and the jaw;
• The Laboratory of the Dental Clinical Technique is equipped with apparatuses , devices and instruments for technical construction of all kinds of teeth dentures. The laboratory creates all kinds of artificial dentures and has as well orthodontic apparatuses for repair of oral-facial defects.
• Department of Dental Technique offers dental technicians internship programs (for 40 per year) and advanced specialty training as well. Scientific and research work of this Department is conducted through courses on new technologies taught by a combination of lecturers delivered by foreign lecturers, tours to the leading world dental laboratories and practical application of developed scientific thought at the Department of Dental Prosthetics.
• Department of Children’s and Preventive Dentistry offers complete dental treatment and preventive dental care for pre-school and school children eligible for treatment in this facility. In the field of jaw orthopedics, a special attention is paid to early detection of anomalies in children and preventive intervention. Over the recent period, the Section applies so called early fixed therapy in children with mixed dental dentition. Treatment of the patients with severe congenital and developmental oral facial deformities are the priority of this Department. The physicians from the Department of the Jaw Orthopedics are actively involved through teamwork in the treatment of patients with the most severe deformities and orthodontic therapy applied before and after surgical intervention. Since 1998, this Department has been providing treatment and preparations for surgical intervention (distraction osteogenesis performed for the first time at the Clinic for Maxillofacial Surgery) to patients with mandibular hypoplasia.
The Dental Clinic performs around 30 000 specialist examinations, provides
14 000 preventive dental services, treats 30 000 teeth, produces 8 000 X-ray images and constructs about 90 000 dentures each year,
