Day of Military Medical Services Marked

The day of the Military Medical Services - July 30, was marked in the amphitheater of the Military Medical Academy, and the ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic, state secretaries in the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Health, Nenad Neric and Berislav Vekic, SAF Chief of Staff General Ljubisa Dikovic, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and SAF, numerous guests, associates and employees of the military health care.
Minister Djordjević congratulated the holiday to members of the military medical services and said that Serbia and SAF are proud of their military health care.
You have built a high reputation with your professionalism, expertise and quality of military medical service and commitment you have provided thus inspiring safety and trust.  "Military doctor" a demanding and responsible profession requires apart from the professionalism in medicine other characteristics that adorn the Serbian soldiers and those are patriotism, dedication, and courage as well as equal commitment to all patients, said the Defence Minister.
According to him, between two anniversaries of the military medical services the staff members successfully provided services to the SAF in all three missions, although that was not always easy, giving priority to the prevention and improvement of professional military personnel health and all military insured people.
- I expect you to keep the quality and to continue with the training of personnel and participation in peacekeeping missions. Also, I believe that we can count on you when you are most needed, said Minister Djordjevic.
Deputy Chief of the Military Healthcare Department Colonel Jovicic Ugljesa reminded the audience of the history of military health care and doctors who had greatly contributed to its development and he presented future plans.
Our main tasks In future will be the optimization of military health care at all levels and the recruitment of staff members. The Military Medical Service is an important part of the Ministry of Defence and SAF that can respond to all obligations and tasks, and the military healthcare will always make efforts to respond to every task, said Colonel Jovicic.
For fifth year in a row the Department of Military Healthcare grants awards for the authors’ endeavor in the field of medical sciences and this year's laureates are Prof. Dr. Predrag Aleksic and Doc. Dr. Vladimir Bancevic from the Clinic for Urology and Prof. Dr. Bela Balint, corresponding member of SASA and Head of the Institute of Transfusion and Chemobiology MMA.
As part of celebrating the Day of the Military Medical Services, the Institute of Transfusion and Chemobiology of the Military Medical Academy organized a blood donation campaign, and Defence Minister Djordjevic and State Secretary Neric were among others who participated in this campaign.
This day commemorates July 30 of 1839, when, by the Constitution of the Principality of Serbia and the Act on establishment of the standing military forces, Dr. Emerich Lindemeier was appointed to the position of the first GS physician.
