Fire quickly extinguished, all patients well

25. 01. 2018

Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin and his associates visited MMA tonight.
After the visit, the Minister of Defence emphasized that thanks to the prompt intervention of employees of the MMA and the Ministry of the Interior, more serious consequences of the fire were avoided and the MMA would continue with normal work.
- All the families of our patients should be calm, all patients are taken care of, they feel well and will continue their treatment.  At this point, current efforts are focused on damage repair. I especially want to thank our cadets who volunteered, just like all MMA employees who have come, collected water, fixed things, and make things better and simpler. They are all well, everyone is taken care of, everything will continue as before, and what was damaged would be quickly repaired, said Minister Vulin, and once again thanked all those who participated in the fire extinguishing.
Acting Head of the MMA Colonel Prof. Dr. Miroslav Vukosavljevic pointed out that a fire broke out in the functional diagnostics for rheumatology and hematology at the Military Medical Academy where there were no patients.
- The fire was quickly localized, owing both to our firefighting units and to the forces of the Belgrade Fire Brigade. At present, water-related consequences, the effects of fire extinguishing, are being eliminated, but what is most important is that there are no human casualties. Some of the patients were only moved because of the smoke and they were returned to their beds after an hour and a half because everything is under control. There is no risk to health of patients. The MMA continues its work, only this part affected by the fire will be temporarily closed, said Colonel Vukosavljevic.
A fire which at around 19.30 tonight broke out on the fourth floor of the Military Medical Academy in the part of the MMA Outpatient Clinic, that is, the functional diagnostics of rheumatology and hematology in which there are no hospitalized patients was quickly extinguished.
The prosecutor was notified about the event, and the investigation would be conducted by a specialized team from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
