Serbian Military medical Services 1914-1915

Belgrade, April 22, 2010. – Heroic deeds of the Serbian heroes of the Cer and Kolubara has amazed the world, and we, their descendants, are obliged to, for ever, remember their famous deeds, and to build our future respecting our past. ‘’The Serbian Military Medical Services was as it has always been throughout our history – a reliable support to our Armed Forces and people’, said Col. Prof. Dr. Nikola Filipović, the deputy head of the Military Medical Academy, at the opening ceremony of this scientific event devoted to Serbian Military Medical Services 1914-1915, held today in our institution.
On behalf of the organizers of the event, the present on this occasion were addressed by the head of the Ministry of Defense Department of Military Health, Brigadier General, Assist. Prof. Dr. Veljko Todorović, who stressed that in our rich history, the Military Medical Services had always served as a reliable support to our National Defence System and the country.
Among the present to the event, there were Ministry of Defense State Secretary Dr. Zoran
Jeftić, the president of the Serbian Medical Society, Prof. Dr. Radoje Čolović, the president of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the Serbian Medical Society, Prof. Dr. Pavle Milenković, a great number of the Academy’s members, former heads and members of the Serbian Military Medical Services, and staff members of the Military Medical Academy as well.
Topics of the delivered lectures dealt with the military political position of Serbia in the 1914-1915 war and the position of the Serbian Military, the role Serbian
Military Medical Services had to play in great battles fought in the World War 1, with a special focus on surgical management of the wounded and sick, occurrence of infectious diseases and epidemic of typhus, as well as special remembrance of physicians and paramedics as heroes of that epopee.

Prof. Dr. Radovan Čekanac, Jovan Maksić, MD, Branislav Dimitrijević, MD, Vukašin Antić, MD, and retired LtCol Luka Nikolić, MD
