The Academicians of the Serbian Medical Society at the MMA

Belgrade, February 25, 2011. – The MMA and the Academy of Medical Sciences of the
Serbian Medical Society (SMS) organized the scientific event devoted to the life and work of Dr. Mihajilo Mika Petrović, the first Serbian professor of War Surgery, the first medical officer holding the rank of General in the Serbian Army, a writer and a pedagogist.

This is the third conference dedicated to the great leaders of the Serbian Military Medical Services to whom the MMA and its members want, on the occasion of the MMA’s Day celebration, to pay back our debt of gratitude  by recalling the great deeds they  performed, erecting the bust in the MMA’s yard and presenting the pertinent monograph.

The present at this occasion were cordially welcomed by the president of the Serbian Medical Society’s Academy of Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Pavle Milenković, the president of the SMS Historical Section, Academician Brana Dimitrijević, the rector of the Serbian Defense University, Maj.Gen. Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtić and the head of the Military Medical Academy, Col. Prof. Dr. Marijan Novaković, who in their welcoming address stressed our obligation to appreciate and honor the tradition and great deeds of our precursors, the future generations of physicians should be guided by.

In the second part of the conference on the life and work of Brigadier General Dr. Mihajilo Mika  Petrović, the Academician Dr. Vladimir Jokanović gave a speech on him, while Maj.Gen. Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtić reported about him as a war surgeon in the Balkans and the First World War. Assist. Prof. Dr. Elizabeta Ristanović said something about the part of his life he devoted to writing and pedagogic work, and his character seen from the perspective of a military journalist was presented by Mrs. Mira Švedić from the Media Center ‘’Odbrana’’

Present to this event were several tents of academicians from the whole of Serbia, heads of the MMA’s organizational units, teachers as well as the cadets of the MMA Medical School.
