19. 04. 2012

A great jubilee of the MMA Scientific Research Institute referring to 51 years of its existence and 50 years of its work was marked in the MMA’s amphitheater. Among the guests present at the event hosted by the MMA’s head Brig. Gen. Prof. Dr.  Marijan Novakovic, were: rector of the University of Defence  Lt. Gen. Prof. Dr Miodrag Jevtic, dean of the MMA’s Medical School Brigadier General Academician Miodrag Colic, Head of the Military Health Department Col. Prof. Dr. Zoran Popovic, employees  of the Military Medical Academy and the Institute, and many others.

Congratulating the employees as well as all its former members of the Institute on their jubilee, General Novakovic pointed out a significant contribution the Institute had given to the advancement and improvement of the MMA’s work in all its spheres, and by that to its current position as a leading health, educational and scientific institutions in this region and far beyond.
Being initially directly subordinated to the head of the Armed Forces Medical Department, the Institute operated as an independent unit under the name of the Institute of Military Medical Documentation. In 1979, it was renamed the Institute of the Military Medical Scientific Information and Documentation (IVMNID)., and since 1997, it carries its current name the Institute of Scientific Information.

‘’Even though the Institute became an integral part of the MMA in 1992, he operated from the very beginning under its roof, being, thus, not only physically but functionally integrated into its framework. Thanks to that, the wealth of scientific medical information, which in all these years, amalgamated into the Institute, and dealt with through the work of its professional services, has always been available to the MMA employees’’, General Novakovic said, and underlined that it was such an institution that had secured direct links to the latest world achievements in a variety of diverse biomedical fields.

As General said, the Institute’s specialized library is, according to the number of monographs and journal publications in the field of biomedicine, ranked as a leading institution in our country. Among other things, a long and exclusive cooperative relationship with the Congress Library in Washington D.C. deserves a large part of the credit for that.
He also added that the "Military Medical Review", the Editorial Board of which is housed within the Institute’s premises since the very beginning of its operation, is the first medical journal in Serbia to be indexed into the SCI data base, and that it is now a journal enjoying an international reputation and readership.
The teaching activity was one of the key activities General Novakovic singled out, reiterating that the greatest responsibility for that has been rested upon the   Institute personnel for years.
By establishing   the Medical School of the Military Medical Academy, the Institute has become a teaching base for the practical performance of the teaching process in the field of medical informatics, and scientific evidence-based medicine – the head of the MMA said.

As a sign of appreciation for the years of their work devoted to the promotion of this institution,
General Novakovic presented the awards to former heads of the Institute: colonels Dr. Cedomir Markovic,  Dr. Dusan Milic, and Prof. Dr. Vladimir Tadic

The current head of the Institute Prof. Dr. Silva Dobric congratulated the Institute’s personnel on another jubilee, that is 20 years of its operation within the MMA framework. She emphasized the decisive role the human factor played in the development of that institution, highlighting in particular the contribution of Prof. Dr. Ines Veslej-Tanaskovic, world-renowned expert in the field of medical informatics.

The head of the Institute awarded the Letters of Thanks to eminent institutions and individuals for their contribution to the work and development of the Institute, what, thus, enabled the Institute to secure its leading position in that field.
