Continuation of cooperation between the USA and the MMA in the prevention of HIV / AIDS

State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Bojan Jocic and Ambassador of the United States of America to Belgrade, His Excellency Kyle Scott, attended today the signing of the annex to the donation protocol within the US Department of Defence's HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control Program at the Military Medical Academy. The event was attended by the Deputy Head of the Military Healthcare Department, Colonel Dr Ugljesa Jovicic and the Acting Head of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel Prof. Dr. Miroslav Vukosavljevic.
His Excellency Kyle Scott said it is a great honor that the day dedicated to the fight against HIV / AIDS, is marked by the donation of equipment and materials worth more than $ 70,000 to the Military Medical Academy, as an example of a joint effort to prevent the disease spreading. As he said, the United States cooperates with governments around the world to increase awareness and strengthen prevention and treatment capacity, and since 2006, the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia has been donated over $ 1 million in achieving these goals.
State Secretary Bojan Jocic expressed his satisfaction with continued good international cooperation between the two countries and expressed gratitude on the valuable donation. Noting that the Ministry of Defence of RS and the United States cooperate through numerous humanitarian actions, State Secretary Jocic emphasized preventive activities in the fight against HIV infection due to the continued participation of Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces staff in peacekeeping operations around the world because they are particularly vulnerable population. He also emphasized that the SAF participates in the HIV / AIDS Prevention and Control Program with armies from 80 countries of the world, which confirms the fact that HIV is considered a problem in the military population on a global scale.
The Military Medical Academy also marked the International Day against HIV / AIDS with regular educational activities for the military population in relation to the prevention and control of HIV / AIDS. In addition to voluntary counseling on HIV / AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases, cadets of the Military Academy were given educational materials on the prevention and control of this dangerous disease.
