Current Issues in Rheumatology

Meeting of the Rheumatology Section of the Serbian Medical Society organized by the MMA Clinic for Rheumatology, within which lectures were held on current issues in this branch of medicine, was held at the Military Medical Academy.
Assist. Dr. Ksenija Bozic spoke about diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of fibromyalgia. As she said, this chronic rheumatologic condition of diverse clinical characteristics can be manifested at any age in both sexes having difficulties in reaching diagnosis. For this reason, the diagnostic criteria revised in 2016 were discussed, also the effectiveness of various medications in the treatment of chronic pain, but also non-pharmacological treatment modalities with a focus on the kinesiotherapy. The latest recommendations for treatment and therapeutic options of spondyloarthritis were presented by Assist. Dr. Mirjana Zlatkovic Svenda. She spoke of neutralizing interleukin IL-23 / IL-17 as a clinically relevant in psoriasis, and ankylosing spondylitis, but as well as about dilemmas such as efficiency, safety, and the selection of patients for biological therapy.
Head of the Clinic for Rheumatology Col. Prof. Dr. Dusan Stefanovic gave a lecture on the treatment of pain in rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune inflammatory disease with many manifestations of associated diseases. In addition to presenting clinical cases he pointed out the ways and treatment goals - preservation of joint function, deformity prevention, how to bring patients to remission, improvement of quality of life, but also the differences between rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia stating multinational recommendations for pharmacological pain management methods.
