Marked 110 Years of Military Infectology

The jubilee of 110 years of military infectology and the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Clinic of the Military Medical Academy was marked by a festive gathering in the MMA amphitheater. The meeting was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Milan Mojsilovic, the Head of the Military Healthcare Department, Brigadier General Dr. Ugljesa Jovicic PhD, Head of the Military Medical Academy Colonel Prof. Dr. Miroslav Vukosavljevic, Rector Lieutenant General Goran Radovanović, PhD and representatives of the University of Defence, MMA staff and numerous guests.
MMA Head Colonel Prof. Dr. Miroslav Vukosavljevic, congratulating the jubilee, said that the 110th anniversary of the Clinic was also marked by other anniversaries - 180 years of military healthcare and 175 years of MMA.
- Numerous generations have struggled with the war experiences, at the same time developing new methods of diagnostics and treatment, and the staff has been constantly improving in the country and in the world - said Colonel Prof. Dr. Vukosavljevic, having emphasized that military infectologists encountered various infectious diseases in their daily practice and that the staff always included a multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of numerous diseases, which has made the MMA recognized beyond the borders of our country.
Head of the Infectious and Tropical Diseases Clinic MMA Colonel Prof. Dr. Dragan Mikic pointed out that infectology at the world level has made great progress in the last three decades.
- Creating a new profile of highly educated infectologists in sufficient numbers, ready to deal with the profession and science unreservedly, is always a win-win situation - said Colonel Prof. Dr. Mikic, pointing to a future orientation in the development of military infectology.
The anniversary was also marked by the promotion of the book "110 Years of Military Infectology and the MMA Clinic for Infectious and Tropical Diseases", recently published by the Media Center “Odbrana”. In addition to clinical work and success in treatment, the activities of lecturers of the Faculty of Medicine of the MMA from the Clinic, experiences of infectologists within the medical contingent of the Serbian Armed Forces in multinational operations were presented in the book, as well as biographies of all 15 Heads of the Department, ie Clinic for Infectious Diseases since 1909.
The jubilee continued with a professional meeting covering several current topics, presented by Colonel Prof. Dr. Dragan Mikic, Prof. Vesna Begovic Kupresanin, Assist.Prof. Dr. Milomir Milanovic, Prof. Dr. Vesna Suljagic, Prof. Dr. Viktoria Dragojevic Simic and Lieutenant Dr. Branko Djordjevic.
