Prof. Dr. Gordana Vunjak Novakovic from Columbia University, city of New York delivered the lecture at the Military Medical Academy titled "Personalized Face Bones Reconstruction Using Tissue Engineering".

Head of the Military Medical Academy Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Marijan Novakovic stressed out the importance for attendees to hear from Prof. Dr. Vunjak Novakovic, world expert in the field of tissue engineering more about this method of regenerative medicine and fast growing reconstructive surgery along with its soon application in clinical practice. The topic represents great benefit for young generations encouraging them for scientific-research work and further development for this largely potential interdisciplinary field, said Prof. Dr. Novakovic.

Dr. Gordana Vunjak Novakovic presented the basic methods of tissue engineering and process of bones reconstruction. The method using stem cells is performed in a few world leading institutions. The guests had the opportunity to see several-year experiments which do not still have clinical application, its advantages as well as the disadvantages in applying anatomically formed implants made with different technologies.

Thanks to her contribution in modeling approaches for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine Dr. Novakovic, Mikati Foundation Professor of Biomedical Engineering, is also the honorable member of USA National Academy of Engineering (NAE), Serbian Academy of Sciences, with numerous prestigious recognitions for more than 100 scientific-research projects and 44 patents.
