New Therapeutic Method Applied at the MMA

03. 04. 2012

The MMA expert team headed by LtCol  Dr. Momir Šarac, a vascular surgeon from the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Clinic and Dr.Goran Sjeničić, a radiologist from the MMA Radiology Institute achieved great success in the treatment of severe chronic dialysis patients.

It was the case of 50-year old female patient on a chronic dialysis therapy, who was taken to the Military Medical Academy in a very difficult health condition, after all standard circulatory accesses for dialysis had been exploited. The MMA’s expert team has, for the first time ever, placed a permanent dialysis catheter – trashepatic Hickman chronic dialysis catheter. The dialysis catheter was percutaneously inserted under local anesthesia into the  right atrium  via the middle hepatitic vein and inferior vena cava. This delicate surgical procedure went off without any complications, and the patient being no more  in a life-threatening condition was successfuly returned to a regular dialysis treatment.
