07. 02. 2010

Belgrade hosted the Symposium on ‘’Experiences and challenges in the treatment of osteoporosis’’ organized by the MMA’s Clinic for Rheumatology and Immunology. The MMA’s head Major General Prof. Dr. Miodrag Jevtić, opened the Symposium with a warm welcome to the attendees to that meeting. In his opening address, he pointed out that osteoporosis had become a global health concern and its diagnosis and treatment a great challenge for clinicians. Osteoporosis is a diseases rheumatologists, psychiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, gynecologists, primary health care practitioners, pharmacists, medical technicians are faced with in their everyday clinical and ward practice.

‘’Without any intention of being immodest, I can say that the right place for addressing this huge global health problem is the Military Medical Academy due to the fact that it applies, under the same roof, a multidisciplinary internal-surgical approach to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases in its clinical practice. In this institution, physicians of various specialties work together to identify and treat osteoporosis, all that with the aim of preventing fractures as the most severe manifestations of the disease. Such a way of practicing may today be considered a privilege for both patients and physicians as well as a synonym for efficacy and safety at work. A path we should cover from the diagnosis to the treatment is becoming considerably shorter, what is one of the most significant goals of the modern medicine the Military Medical Academy follows and is based on’’ said general Jevtić.
