Specialist Outpatient Clinic
The MMA’s Specialist Outpatient Clinic has been established as a response to the need for providing more efficient, rationale and higher qualitytreatment to both military and civilian patient population of the Republic of Serbia, our expatriates living and working worldwide as well as citizens from surrounding countries.

The Specialist Outpatient Clinic comprises specialty wards and functional diagnostic units which offer its patients 25 specialty and subspecialty services in the following fields:
  • Internal medicine (cardiology, nephrology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, hematology, pulmology, endocrinology, physical medicine and rehabilitation)
  • Surgery (general, vascular, orthopedics and traumatology, neurosurgery, maxillofacial, plastic, chest and cardiac surgery, urology, ENT and ophthalmology),
  • Neurology, psychiatry, psychology, defectology, dermatology, gynecology and child diseases, infectious diseases, dentistry.

It has also added to its roster the Center for the Same Day Surgery with its two operating theaters, the 6-bed Observation Roomrun by highly qualified and skilled MMA’s surgeons with the assistance of anesthesiologists. Established on the model of the existing centers, this Center is intended for surgical patientsundergoing elective surgeries under local and general anesthesiawhichlast for 1 or 2 hours, and do not require postoperative care and hospitalization longer than 24 hours. Following the world trends in medicine and surgery, that has been the way to rationalize the MMA’s bed capacity, shorten the waiting time for a surgery as well as the possibility of acquiring nosocomial infections, whilst the patient is guaranteed the first-class surgery and the anesthesiology treatment.
Prior to any elective surgery, every patient indicated for a surgery by a selected surgeon undergoes anesthesiology exams.  After the surgery under general anesthesia, a patient is transferred to the Recovery Room and closely observed by an anesthesiologist and a surgeon till she/he is discharged and sent home for further home care.

History
In 1948, the Outpatient Specialist Clinic of the Military Medical Academy was established. Initially, it had internal ward with a cardiological station and station for focalosis, chest ward, pediatric ward, dermatovenereal ward with varicose station, surgical ward, ENT ward, eye ward, gynecology, physical therapy, mouth disease and dental prosthetics wards along with X-ray and laboratory. One year later, Admission Department was set up and added to the Outpatient Specialist Clinic's roster.

Until 1976,  the Clinic had its own nursing staff, while physicians were the staff members of their respective clinics and department. That same year, the Outpatient Specialist Clinic underwent considerable changes in terms of  setting up wards for internal diseases, endocrinology, nephrology, pulmology, hematology, wards for general surgery, orthopedics and traumatology, urology, plastic and maxillofacial surgery, ward for neurology and psychiatry, ward for gynecology and pediatric ward all staffed by their own medical personnel and the patient’s admission and release department as well. Wards for dentistry, physical medicine and X-ray were excluded from the Outpatient Specialist Clinic. Over the period between 1945 and 1962, the Outpatient Specialist Clinic served civil population as well. In 1962, the Outpatient Specialist Clinic for civilians was officially established.
Since 1981, when it moved into a new building, its current organizational structure hasn't changed; however, it was significantly approved  in 2006, when it continued to operate as the Outpatient Diagnostic Clinic. In the beginning of the year 2012, center is again titled Specialist Outpatient Clinic.
