The Lecture of the Editor at The Lancet Journal

The North American Senior Editor of the Lancet journal, Dr. Maja Zečević delivered the lecture in MMA’s Amphitheater on July 3, 2012 covering the topics of editing medical magazines with the special emphasis on the Lancet journal, the one of the oldest medical journals in the world. The particular segment of the lecture was dedicated to the publishing ethics and problems of plagiarism and autoplagiarism in the scientific papers. Among the other MMA’s employees, the event was attended by MMA’s head Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Marijan Novaković and dean of the MMA’s Medical School Brigadier General Academician Prof. Dr. Miodrag Čolić. A numerous editors of the national biomedical journals followed the lecture with a great attention.
After very interesting discussion, Brigadier General Prof. Dr. Marijan Novaković expressed his gratitude to the guest and the lecture she delivered and handed her the appropriate present as a memory to this visit.
Dr. Maja Zečević paid a visit to the MMA’s Institute of Scientific Information, the place for the publication preparing of the magazine Military Medical Review (Vojnosanitetski pregled- VSP), the leading medical journal in the country with the international status, where she shared the experiences with the members of the VSP copydesk.   
Established in 1823, the Lancet journal represents one of 1200 publications within the framework of publishing company Elsevier. The Lancet publishes a weekly journal with the special sections for editorials, scientific thesis and revisions. In addition, there are three monthly specialty journals in the fields of oncology, infectious diseases, neurology and very soon, the pulmology edition. The local questions with global consequences and global questions with a great influence on the healthcare development on the local level are having the primacy when selecting the topics and papers published in the editions. At the present the Lancet journal is the world leading medical journal with the impact factor greater than 38.
