Pathology and Forensic Medicine Institute
The Institute as its integral parts has two functional units: the Institute of Pathology and the Institute of Forensic Medicine. Both institutes interact through sharing the same space, personnel and equipment, but due to the different nature of their main activity, they operate as separate organizational units.
The Institute of Pathology deals with complete morphological diagnostics, i.e. cytological, cytogenic and electromicroscopic analyzes and biopsies of tissue and tissue fluid samples obtained from the patients. It also conducts autopsies of the dead patients, and actively participates in consiliar and scientific-research work.
In addition to autopsies of violent and unsolved death cases, the doctors from the Institute of Forensic Medicine are requested to testify in court as experts. They are also involved in examination of living persons as medical examiners, and in court proceedings as forensic medical experts.
